The Pyla Dune

A masterpiece of nature!

Located in the Landes de Gascogne, at the entrance to the Arcachon Basin, facing the tip of Cap Ferret, the Pyla (or Pilat) dune is the highest dune in Europe.

This constantly moving maritime formation offers at its summit an exceptional panorama of the ocean, the inland sea made up of the Arcachon Basin, the passes, Cap Ferret, the islands, the Banc d'Arguin and the magnificent coastal forest.

Visitors  reach the top via a staircase of 154 steps.

As for getting back down, children and adults hurtle down the slope or let themselves roll on the sand ...
